RIP Tina

RIP Tina
Tina was resscued when she was 9, she lived to be 17 years old. She is the poster child for all the senior dogs needing homes that are in shelters everywhere! Tina was a great dog and an excellent companion. Please, during your search for a dog, don't rule out getting an adult or senior dogs, sometimes, they make the best companions!

Don't fry your dog........

Fall is approaching and so many of us want to take our dogs with us when we run to the store or make other trips in the car.  Although the weather is cooling down, it is still too hot to bring our faithful companions along for the ride.

There are some very startling statistics about how quickly the inside of a parked car can heat up - severe heatstroke is only minutes away, and death not far behind for dogs left in parked cars during warm weather.
Most of us know that we shouldn't leave dogs in parked cars in the height of summer, but cooler Spring and Autumn temperatures can prove to be as deadly.
Here are some sobering facts, courtesy of the The Humane Society of the United States:

  • Your dog's normal temperature is approximately 101F (38C) - at a temperature of 105F (40C) your dog will be suffering moderate heatstroke and at 108F (42C) dog heatstroke can be severe and potentially deadly;
  • When it's 85F (29C) outside, the inside of your car can reach 102F within 10 minutes; 20 minutes later and the temperature is likely to be 120F;
  • Even when it's only 72F (22C) outside, the car can heat up to 105F within 30 minutes;
  • Leaving the car windows open has a negligible effect on both the inside temperature and the rate at which the car heats up;
  • Your dog is designed to conserve heat and only has sweat glands on his paw pads and his nose;
  • Your dog regulates his temperature by panting - expelling warm air and inhaling cool air. In a hot car he will be breathing in hot air and so fighting a losing battle against heatstroke.
  • Even if you get your dog out of the car and cool him down, he may have suffered long term damage to his brain and internal organs.
Frightening isn't it?

Thor is a Great Pyrenees

Thor is a BIG boy, he appears to be a pure bred Great Pyrenees.  This big ole' lug is easy to handle.  He is 1 year old and just a big lover.  Easy on lead, great with other dogs and so gentle a 4 year old can walk him.  He is not a barker, but will alert.  Looks like someone shaved him down for the Summer, but his coat will grow back to it's original length and he will be stunning.

This boy is a charmer and everyone who meets him falls in love!  Thor is current on all of his shots, including Rabies, has just recently been neutered and ready for his very own home!  He is a bit lanky now and could definitely gain a few pounds, part of his lankiness is just due to his age and he will fill out nicely.

If you are interested in adopting Thor from Angel Paws Country Rescue, please send an e-mail requesting an application to PAWSRESCUE@YMAIL.COM

Adoption cost for Thor is $300

Meet Teddy!!

Teddy is an all American Mutt :)  Looks like she has some Terrier, a little bit of Pug and who knows what else thrown into the mix. She  got her name by the staff at the Veterinarians office because  they thought she was a boy!  Well, Teddy is 100% girl :)  This young lady is yet another victim of being hit by a car. Both rear legs and her pelvis were broken and had to be pinned back together.
We are very please to say that after much crate rest (which she hated), Teddy is ready to go to her very own home!!  Teddy is UTD on her shots, has recently been spayed and of course will be micro chipped.

This fun loving doll is super with kids and other dogs.  She can run and play just like she did before her horrific accident.

Adoption cost for Teddy is $100

If you would like to be considered as Teddy's new family, simply send a request to Angel Paws Country Rescue.  The e-mail address is PAWSRESCUE@YMAIL.COM

Meet Timmy The Three Legged Dog!!

Timmy is a wonderful Miniature Pincher MIX who was apparently hit by a car.  His rear leg was damaged beyond repair and had to be amputated.  Timmy had recovered from his amputation and is getting along just fine!  He is a playful 1-2 year old boy who is ready for his very own home.  Timmy weighs in at about 25 pounds, he has been neutered, all of his shots are current and he will be micro chipped with a Home Again chip.

This boy is great with kids and other dogs.  If you are looking for a mid sized, short haired dog, this black and tan beauty just may be the boy for you.

Timmy's adoption cost is only $100, you can't beat that considering all that has gone into him!!

If you are interested in learning more about Timmy or submitting an application, please send an e-mail to Angel Paws Country Rescue, e-mail address is PAWSRESCUE@YMAIL.COM

Ever wonder what to donate to a rescue?

In these hard economic many people finding themselves wanting to donate to rescues but with money being tight, how in the heck can you help?

Well, money always helps, but there are so many things that you may have that rescues in general need!  Sometimes you have leftover  pet related items or other items that can be used and would be greatly appreciated!  That partial bag of puppy pads that you no longer need since Fido has been house trained is just taking up space, but rescue always needs things like that!  Below, I have compiled a list of items that most rescues (including Angel Paws Country Rescue) would be thrilled to have!

  • Towels, we all have those old towels sitting around!! (all sizes, even wash cloths)
  • Blankets
  • Sheets
  • Mattress pads
  • News Papers
  • Shampoo (we love baby wash!)
  • Flea Treatment (no dips please)
  • Dog Food
  • Crates (got an extra crate or two collecting dust in the garage?)
  • Exercise Pens (X-Pens)
  • Play Pens (pack n plays work great for nursing mommas)
  • Rugs, dog's don't care if the color does not match your current decor or even if the ends are frayed, they just love to have a rug to lay on!
  • Dog beds
  • Leashes and collars
  • Dog Houses
  • Misters
  • Food and water dished, although we will accept plastic, metal or ceramic are much easier to disinfect.
  • Toys!!  We can always used toys, even tennis balls!
  • Kiddie pools, after Summer is over and you have that kiddie pool sitting around why not think about donating it to rescue?  The dogs love to play in the water and they are great when we get a pregnant or nursing Momma out of the shelter.  Just the plastic ones, the blow up ones just don't stand a chance with the dogs!!
  • Baby cereal, meat baby foods and even bags of rice!
  • Totes.  We use totes to store items for the dogs and even use them as big "dish pans" to disinfect food dishes)
  • Dorm size refrigerator (perfect for storing shots and other medications for the dogs)
  • Pedialite (unflavored) and Ensure (can be store brand, but vanilla only)  These are life savers for dogs that come in sick and/or emaciated.
  • Building materials (wood, fencing, etc... need not be perfect, even wood from an old fence that was recently replaced!!)
The list goes on and on, there are so many things that we use in rescue!  We at Angel Paws Country Rescue encourage you to take a look around and see what you have.  Of course we love getting donations, but donating to ANY rescue helps the effort!!
